Handbuilding II Class

Hand-building 2 is a perfect course for students interested in furthering their already established hand building skills. We will explore new techniques, complex forms, exaggerated scale, and intentional surfaces to create thoughtful ceramic artwork. Whether you are interested in ceramic sculpture or intricate functional pots, instructor Sam Purze will guide you through this 6-week course to accomplish your goals. Hand Building 1 (or a similar qualifying experience) is a required prerequisite for this upper-level ceramics class. If you have specific ideas, please bring thorough sketches with you on the first day of class. If you don’t know where to start, a project will be suggested to you. All tools and supplies included. Pick-up finished artwork 2-3 weeks after the last day of class.

Tidbits and Trinkets - Jewelry Making Class

Learn how to create handmade porcelain jewelry in this engaging 3-week class! We will begin by forming playful stud earrings, dangling earrings, necklaces or pins out of porcelain clay. We will connect high temperature wire where needed for future hardware attachments. Then we will add color to our tidbits with glazes made in house. During our final class, we will assemble all the trinkets, so they will be ready to wear before you leave. Give the gift of handmade this holiday season! Price includes all tools, supplies and jewelry hardware including wire, pin backs and string. Long fingernails are NOT recommended.

If you have a necklace or bracelet chain you would like to repurpose, or a pair of jeweler's pliers, bring them with you to class.

Claymates for Kids

Children will learn the basics of hand building with clay in the form of coiling, pinching and slab building. They will complete their projects with simple glazing techniques. At the end of the session each child typically goes home with several ceramic works which they made themselves from start to finish. These children will have the opportunity to pick up a new hobby, learn a multitude of hand skills, and work on problem solving. They will be welcomed into an environment where their creativity is encouraged and make new friends along the way. Experienced students may pursue their own projects under the guidance of the instructor. Pick-up finished work 2-3 weeks after last class.
